G35x Test Drive - I made it!
Finally got to test drive the car that I’ve been trying to get. I’m not going to be able to pay for it all up front like I hoped, but I think I’m still gonna get a good deal. Hopefully this blog will help me with the payments still though! Gotta show to everyone that a simple blogger like myself can make it! Oh, and I drove a 2008, which is probably what I wil be getting.
Onto the drive itself. I got to test out many of the features that I’ve written about previously. The Intelligent Key was pretty cool, you just have to pretty much open the door as long as the key is on you. I saw the Infiniti Ipod Interface, and that looked like it’ll be a great solution for the new iPod I’m eventually going to get. The XM radio and center console were as great as I imagined they would be.
The dashboard in front of you is also illuminated well, and the seat and wheel adjustment was incredible. Even better, if your friend drives the car (if you ever let them) you can use the memory settings to bring the car right back to what it was when you were driving it. That’s also pretty cool in my book. Space was perfect for a guy my size, but I can see where a larger or taller guy would run into some problems.
When actually putting it on the road, I did not notice the jerky jump start that a lot of people have mentioned is a problem with the way the car drives. It was extremely smooth, and the engine purred really well. The handling was excellent around the curves, tightening up the wheel just enough. Braking was also very good, they responded well, maybe a little too well though. Someone did almost clip me while I was trying to change lanes though. Stupid people in a rush.
The navigation system also worked quite well, though you have to keep in mind that you must be at a stop for it to work. It’s a safety issue, killing off many of the button functions when you are in motion. A pretty good safety feature, I would mention. Anyway, the navigation system reads off directions to you, giving you a pretty good amount of notice before you need to make any turns, and also informs you of any exits upcoming. You can see buildings on the map too, that was pretty cool. Another thing about the navigation system is that it seems to need a bit of updating, as it gave the address of the old dealership rather than its new location.
Finally, the rearview camera was nice, it guided you where you need to drive. Of course its no replacement for looking backwards, but it was pretty nice. It made it really easy to back up!
Big things are going to be happening around this blog. I hope that you join me throughout these exciting changes. Can’t wait to get the car!
