One of the difficulties that bloggers face is getting people to stay and come back to their blogs. This gets more difficult as people begin to expect more updates and subscribers see nothing new on the site. Stumblers, in particular, are known for spending less than one second on a site at a time. How can you combat this? Well, this might not provide all the solutions, but here are some things you can try to get people to stay.
Running a Poll - This is pretty easy to do, and can provide your readers with some good information. I’m currently running one right now that was accepted by Buzzdash. It’s a pretty good case study actually, and you can check out the results and vote up above by clicking on the “Current Poll” Page. My current poll is measuring how many users will click on ads they see online. What I think is somewhat ironic is that so far, a majority of people say that they will not click on ads online, but have no problem clicking on a poll. I’ve gotten way more clicks from this poll than from any ad I’ve placed on any blog. Perhaps there is some marketing to be done there. Paid user polls.
Something to consider.
Add a Forum - Forums are a great way to help build a community. It gives people a place to talk about something that they feel is not appropriate for a comment. Forums will help your blog because especially if you can’t comment or respond back as quickly as you would like. Someone else on the forum may answer the question for you. My forum, which I recently added, can be accessed by clicking on the Forum page up above. It was extremely easy for me to set up through my host. Please check it out, and let me know what you think!
Also, forums are great in that they can be monetized if you choose to do so. Adding advertisements onto my forum was extremely simple, and I can easily customize the way I’d like it to look. You can also change the settings as to who sees them if you choose to.
Start a Wiki - This one involves a bit more work. Actually quite a bit more work. A wiki is a great way to provide information to your readers, and can be extremely interactive and useful. However, getting one off the ground does require a lot of time, starting pages, and getting other people to come in and make their own pages and edits. However, in the long run, a wiki can be a great way to get people to get connected to you. And no, it does not have to be a thing about money, such as the Million Euro Wiki or the Million Dollar Wiki, which I am still a bit skeptical about.
Try out some of these tips and see if it works out for you. I will be sure to let you know how they are working out for me. Get out there and build your community. Do this in conjunction with building your brand. You will probably have a lot more fun, and so will your readers.
