3 Ways to Improve your Technorati Ranking

Why is Technorati so important? Technorati is a tool that helps you determine how many incoming links you have. Of course you can do this through Wordpress if you use it, but Technorati makes it a bit more interesting. They rank you based on how many links you have coming in, and also on the rank of the blogs that link to you. Because of this, its very important to improve your technorati ranking in order to get your blog noticed in the billions of blogs out there. This is often easier said than done. However, I’ve come up with a few suggestions which may help you to increase you rank, and thus your readership.

Create High Quality Content (Linkbait) - An easy way to improve your technorati ranking is to create high quality content. Offer something of value Give your readers something that they want to link to. Something that they will want to share with others. If it’s that good, then the links will keep getting spread around and your ranking will increase. Of course there are some things you can do to ensure that your content is good “linkbait”

• Have a good title. The title is what draws people to read your articles. Some examples of things that people love are top ten lists, best ways to do something, and of course, google and apple related stuff. :-]
• Make your stuff easy to read. Having lists instead of large blocks of text are good ways to do this. It keeps the interest because there is not so much to process.
• Include images and video to keep interest. Something funny or something that stands out!

Once you’ve taken care of this, you should have some high quality content that people should want to link to. These incoming links will help increase your technorati ranking!

Return the Favor

Another way to increase your Technorati ranking is simply by returning the favor. For one link to your blog, you may choose to return the favor. With the increase that you’ve provided to them, they are more likely to return to your blog, and link to it again at some point. John Chow was a good example of this. You do have to be careful with this though, because Google may decide to punish you for trying to rank high for a certain keyword. Just be grateful for links and don’t ask for any specific anchor text or anything. Of course, having good content, as I illustrated in the first point, is important in this. You want to make sure that when someone returns, they will have something that they will want to link to.

You can also simply ask. A link exchange, such as a link on a blogroll, will also increase your Technorati ranking. With this link on their blog, they are also more likely to return, and again, link to your high quality content. Speaking of asking:

Make it Simple -

Nobody likes to do anything too hard. So make adding your link to their site easy to do, or adding you to their favorites. A way to do this is with feedburner’s feedflare. It is an option to add to technorati favorites which is highly visible and makes it easy for them. Technorati also provides plenty of buttons that you can use to do this!
